Purple tea is a special tea variety uniquely found in Kenya. This rare tea is named after its distinctive, purple leaf pigmentation associated with high presence of the antioxidants called Anthocyanin. The tea is hand-picked by small-scale farmers and minimally processed by rolling.
The anthocyanin found in purple tea is what generates the unique purple colour, similar to blueberries, red cabbage and other purple coloured anti-oxidant rich foods. The cup has a pink to purple hue, and opens to a smooth, herbaceous and woody palate with a long finish. Citrus addition enhances the deep purple colour extraction and brings to the fore the fresh grassy notes.
